The themes of Sounding City Summer School

Every year, we choose a different theme to frame our exploration of the soundscapes in and around Struer, and to target wicked problems from new perspectives.

Sounding City 2025: ... & CO

In 2025, Sounding City & Co – with reference to the sound art biannual, Struer Tracks 2025 – focused on how communities in and around the City of Sound can be voiced through speculative design processes and in captivating, co-created soundscapes to dream collectively of communal futures.

In teams, the students explored eight different local communities through interviews, sound recordings and fieldwork, and created sonic and visual representations of working, local and more-than-human communities.

The projects where exhibited at Struer City Hall in connection with Struer Tracks.

Sounding City Summer School 2023: SONIC IMAGINATIONS

With the title SONIC IMAGINATIONS, the 2023 rendition of the Sounding City Summer School focused on visualizing the sound of Struer in the past, present and future.

Together, the students created 6 imaginations, using sound and other techniques to tell about Struer Harbour, the history and cultural heritage of the area and the soundscapes we are already in.

Through sound recordings and fieldwork, the students created interactive proposals for how citizens and visitors can experience Struer now and in the future.

The summer school took place from the 31st of July to the 18th of August 2023.

Sounding City Summer School 2022: SONIC CONNECTIONS

In the 2022 edition of the Sounding City Summer School, the students researched how residents in urban quarters, urban wilding environments and the landscapes surrounding the city, may interact with and through soundscapes and sonic interventions and become aware of sustainable cohabitation with the more-than-human life.

As a part of the summer school, the students solved cases which contributed to the collection of materials for Struer Museum's new project, Gademuseet (the Street Museum).
